A dedicated conservationist and philanthropist, Richard “Dick” Frederick Bradshaw (1939-2025) will always be remembered by the Nature Trust of BC for the tremendous impact he has made for British Columbia’s fish, wildlife, habitat and communities. Dick, together with his wife Val, have helped us protect thousands of hectares of critical and vulnerable habitat across the province – a testament to their commitment to the nature that makes British Columbia so special.

“Dick Bradshaw had a tremendous impact on the conservation of BC’s natural wonders. Dick was so kind, humble, and generous, and his dedication to protecting nature in BC will pay dividends for generations to come.” Dr. Jasper Lament, CEO, Nature Trust of BC

Dick was a passionate fly fisherman and avid skier, with a deep connection to BC’s lands and waters. A lifelong environmentalist, his drive to protect the environment has left a lasting legacy on the conservation landscape in BC. Dick and Val were instrumental in securing several conservation areas across British Columbia — protecting vulnerable ecosystems from wetlands to grasslands for generations to come. This included projects that conserve key salmon habitat, from coastal estuaries that shelter juvenile salmon to spawning rivers that support all five species of Pacific salmon. In addition to his family’s work with The Nature Trust of BC, Val and Dick’s generosity propelled conservation action in the province forward – from funding major salmon habitat restoration projects and bolstering conservation biology through fellowships and endowed chairs across Canada.

Dick Bradshaw will be deeply missed by all those who knew him at The Nature Trust of BC. He will always be remembered for not only his profound impact on BC conservation, but also his kind, generous, and humble spirit.

A celebration of life will be held for Dick on Sunday, January 25th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, 4300 SW Marine Drive, Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, The Bradshaw family has included The Nature Trust of BC and Pacific Salmon Foundation in Dick’s obituary for those wishing to make a donation in Dick’s honour.
