BC Conservation Corps

2009 Conservation Crews

From May to the end of August, The Nature Trust will have crews undertaking vital habitat restoration on our conservation properties. HSBC Bank Canada is the title sponsor of the program while other sponsors include BC Hydro and the BC Ministry of Environment through the Conservation Corps program.

There will be crews
• in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island,
• in Surrey in the Lower Mainland,
• in Penticton in the South Okanagan,
• in Cranbrook in the East Kootenay,
• and in Fort St. John in the Peace River region.

Training includes First Aid, Bear Aware and other wilderness safety as well as conservation techniques and practices. Activities include removing invasive weeds, restoring grasslands and wetlands, installing interpretive signs, repairing perimeter fences to keep livestock off conservation lands, community outreach and education, and monitoring wildlife.
