The Nature Trust of British Columbia was established in 1971 with a $4.5 million grant from the federal government in honour of the BC centennial. (Originally named the National Second Century Fund of Canada, the organization was renamed The Nature Trust of British Columbia in 1984.) Since that time, various levels of government, including municipal, provincial and federal, have been involved in supporting the organization as well as individual donors, corporations, foundations and non-governmental organizations.
